How to use and not to use magic mushrooms
We have written a responsible use guide so that you can benefit from our knowledge. Following the advice will make your trip purer, more beautiful and safer. You can also download the responsible use brochure here.
To get the most out of a magic mushroom trip, we recommend planning the trip at least a couple of days in advance to prepare mentally and physically for the experience.
There are certain precautions you should take especially when you have never had an experience with magic mushrooms.
Preparation before consuming magic mushrooms
Health
- The minimum age to consume magic mushrooms is 18 years old. Of course, not everyone matures at the same rate, so consumption is recommended for those over 21 years of age.
- Take mushrooms only when you are in good mental health; for example, you should not be depressed. It is also important to be in good physical health and not have bacterial or viral infections, such as a common cold or the flu.
- Do not use mushrooms if you are alone. It is preferable to use them with a person who has taken mushrooms before.
Food and beverage
- Drinking water must be available in abundance for all.
- Direct access to beverages containing sugar (dextrose) is strongly recommended. In case you want to decrease the effects this is what you should take.
- If taken on an empty stomach, magic mushrooms will have the best effect. Consume magic mushrooms at least 2.5 hours after your last meal. You can expect the effects to begin between 20 and 60 minutes, depending on the rate of your metabolism.
- A portion of the species cubensis 15 grams. In dry weight is 1.5 grams. Never take more than this. Not even when your friends already feel the effects and you don’t. Wait a little longer.
- Want to calculate your dosage? Use Shroomery’s dosage calculator
Environment and people
- The people you wear them with should be people you like and trust.
- Take mushrooms because you want to take them and not because other people convince you to do so while you are not completely sure about it.
- If you are afraid of the possible effects, DON’T TAKE MAGIC MUSHROOMS!
- Make sure that one or more people in your company are so-called “caretakers”. This means that they will not take mushrooms. In case someone needs care, they will be able to take care of that person. Learn more about caregivers.
- Keep the next 24 hours free of appointments. Take your time for magic mushrooms. The thought that you will soon have to catch a train or have a job interview will stress you out and detract from the beauty of your trip.
- Turn off the phone. Most people will not be able to react rationally to bad or good news. Others also turn off the ringer so they won’t be disturbed.
- Take magic mushrooms in a quiet environment, with no strangers (people who do not belong to your group) or very few. Magic mushrooms are not party drugs. Festivals and concert halls are not good places to use them.
- Make sure you know how to contact local emergency services.
Other drugs
NEVER take magic mushrooms in combination with other drugs. Especially with alcohol and also not with cannabis.
During the trip
Drink plenty of water. As pleasant as the effects of mushrooms may be, your body recognizes the active ingredients as toxins. Your body needs water to flush these chemicals out of your system. Caution: Don’t think that if you don’t drink water the effects will last longer or intensify.
Your body will simply take water from other places in your system because eliminating this toxin will be a priority. The consequence is that you will become dehydrated and this can be very dangerous. Either way, the trip will have the same strength and duration.
Do not consume alcohol or other drugs before, during or after the trip. This is so important that we repeat this statement. One of the effects of mushrooms is that your mind jumps from one thought to another at great speed.
Alcohol slows down your reaction speed and will be responsible for your thoughts starting to run in a loop. This is extremely unpleasant and can easily cause a bad trip. Also, when you consume alcohol you are prone to dehydration.
The trip
Relax and follow their path. The effects of mushrooms are mind-blowing. This means that your senses work at a higher frequency when you are intoxicated.
You will experience things that you would not normally see or notice. These visions are often enigmatic and are not always what they seem.
The beauty lies in the puzzles. This can be scary at times, but let yourself go and don’t try to fight it. Blocking it will turn against you.
Need
What differentiates people depends largely on their background. No two people are alike and the same goes for their needs when they are on the road. Some people love to chat, others prefer to be quiet.
One wants to make love, while another doesn’t even want to be touched. It’s good to be able to communicate this up front and you’ll understand the importance of surrounding yourself with people you like and trust.
Waves
Mushroom effects come and go in waves. This is also noticeable in how the strength of the trip is experienced. It may happen that at a certain point in the trip you get the feeling that the effects are fading.
Do not eat more magic mushrooms to increase the effects again. After a few minutes you will see the effects increase again without having to do anything.
In case of a bad trip
If you follow our advice to the letter, the chances of a “trip gone wrong” are reduced to a minimum. However, it may happen that one person in your group does not follow our rules so strictly. When a person has a bad trip, you will notice it. That person will start to react in a very anxious, extremely paranoid or even hysterical or violent way. Here are some tips on how to deal with this situation. The best thing to do is to have the person who is sober (the sitter) take care of this person.
- Never let the person out of your sight, as he or she may suddenly try to run away. This person should never be or feel alone.
- Find a quiet place where this person can sit or lie down. Have him or her concentrate on breathing calmly.
- Give the person sweet things to drink and perhaps also to eat. After a few minutes, the effects of the magic mushrooms will start to become milder.
- A bad trip usually lasts as long as a normal trip. The person in question may have the feeling that it will never go away. The consolation is to convince them that it will be over soon. Again, making them drink sweet beverages will help to decrease the duration of the trip.
- When after a while you think you have done your best and this person is becoming unmanageable, you will have to contact the emergency services. In Europe this number is 112. In the United States it is 911. Always be completely honest with the services about what is happening to the victim and what this person has taken as an intoxicant.
